The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (FMHUD) has introduced a digital platform for Nigerians to report fraudulent activities in housing estates across the country.

Persecondnews reports that the Nigerian real estate market has been plagued by scams, with reported losses estimated at ₦16.2 billion between January and July 2025, according to data from the EFCC and consumer watchdogs.

The portal, accessible via https://reports.fmhud.gov.ng, allows citizens to submit complaints, share evidence, and track the progress of their cases.

According to the Ministry, the platform is designed to promote transparency and accountability in the real estate sector.

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa on Tuesday said the initiative aligns with the 2012 National Housing Policy, which emphasizes the need for stronger regulation of the housing industry and protection of citizens from fraudulent actors.

“The platform enables users to submit complaints and share relevant evidence and information on fraudulent practices in the real estate sector,” the Ministry stated.

This move is expected to boost confidence in the sector and safeguard the interests of homebuyers and investors.

In addition to the fraud reporting portal, the Ministry has also launched the Contract Performance and Compliance Project Monitoring System (CPCPMS).

This platform enables real-time monitoring of project progress, evaluates contractor performance, and provides a centralized repository for project documents.

This move is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to improve oversight in the housing sector and promote transparency in real estate transactions nationwide.

Dr. Marcus Amiolemen, Deputy Director and Head of the Ministry’s ICT Department, said both platforms demonstrate the Ministry’s commitment to protecting citizens and improving service delivery.

The fraud portal was developed in partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to ensure effective tracking and follow-up of reported cases, he said.

The Ministry stressed that fraudulent practices in housing estates will no longer be tolerated and that offenders will face the full weight of the law.
