Calvin Bassey Slams Referee’s Decision on United’s Goal

"It's the same as my one. It's a foul. He pushed me to stop me from getting to the ball. When the ref looks back on it, he will be disappointed"

Manchester United defender Calvin Bassey says he is convinced that his team’s goal against Fulham should have been disallowed.

He claims that Leny Yoro fouled him before scoring the crucial goal, which resulted in a 1-1 draw after Emile Smith Rowe equalized for Fulham with his first touch.

Bassey believes Yoro’s push in his back was an unfair advantage that prevented him from winning the aerial duel.

Bassey expressed his frustration with the decision, saying, “It’s the same as my one. It’s a foul. He pushed me to stop me from getting to the ball. When the ref looks back on it, he will be disappointed.”

He added: “Come on, it’s a foul. When you’ve got to jump, any little touch can put you off. He’s got two hands [on my back]. How much worse do you need?”

Bassey believed that the referee’s decision was incorrect and that the goal should have been disallowed.

Bassey also questioned the penalty decision awarded against him for a foul on Mason Mount.

“I still think it’s harsh. I’m trying to stay strong because I know the block’s coming, and then I’ve pulled him over my foot,” he explained.

Although Bassey understood why the penalty was awarded, he felt the referee should have considered his strength and the overall context of the play.

He admitted his relief when Bruno Fernandes missed the penalty.

“I’d say it was justice! I didn’t think it was a pen. It was a bit of relief,” he said with a smile.
