The Government of Taiwan has commended President Bola Tinubu for his diplomatic visit to Saint Lucia, where he was honoured with the prestigious Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia.

Taiwan’s Representative and Head of Mission in Nigeria, Mr. Andy Liu, in a statement, described the honour as a remarkable symbol of Nigeria’s growing influence in the global diplomatic space.

According to Liu, the visit and the award reflect not only Tinubu’s diplomatic reach but also Nigeria’s rising international status under his leadership.

“We, the people and Government of Taiwan, wholeheartedly congratulate President Tinubu for his vision and concrete actions in extending Nigeria’s connections with Caribbean island states,” Liu said.

Taiwan has maintained a robust diplomatic presence in the region, offering assistance in various areas, including healthcare, agriculture, women and youth empowerment, trade, and sustainable development.

Liu expressed optimism that Nigeria’s engagement with Saint Lucia would create further opportunities for joint humanitarian and economic collaboration.

Liu disclosed that Taiwan had developed several facilities in partnership with Saint Lucian authorities, which may have been part of President Tinubu’s tour during his state visit.

He added that Taiwan is ready and eager to share its technological expertise and development strategies with Nigeria to foster mutual growth.

“We are proud to offer our helping hands that produce fruitful results, and we certainly welcome wholeheartedly that Nigeria will also be joining this humanitarian and economic collaboration in the Caribbean area,” Liu said.

He called on the Nigerian government to consider building substantial and mutually beneficial relations with Taiwan, similar to what currently exists between Taiwan and Saint Lucia.

“Taiwan stands ready to partner with Nigeria across various sectors, and we hope President Tinubu and his administration will see Taiwan as a healthy and advanced partner in promoting prosperity and global cooperation,” Liu added.
