Just in: David Mark, Aregbesola, tipped as ADC’s interim Chairman, Secretary

1k

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has named some political bigwigs including former Senate President David Mark and former Osun State Governor and Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, as its interim national Chairman and Secretary respectively.

Prominent opposition politicians in the country appear to have settled for ADC as the primary platform for the much-touted planned coalition against the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 polls.

The development is part of the ADC’s strategy to unify and mobilize Nigeria’s fragmented opposition.

The coalition, it was gathered, include
disgruntled members of APC, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and the Labour Party, among others.

Sources said the appointments to the ADC’s interim leadership were finalised on Tuesday in Abuja, at a high-level meeting of the opposition leaders.

Apart from David Mark, who may have resigned from PDP and Aregbesola, an estranged ally of President Bola Tinubu,
other appointments were also made.

They include Chief Anayo Arinze as Interim Deputy National Chairman (South), Alhaji Ibrahim Manzo as Interim Deputy National Chairman (North), and former Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi as Interim National Publicity Secretary.

It was also learnt that the coalition’s decision to adopt ADC is premptive of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) suspected tardiness in registering new political parties, including the proposed All Democratic Alliance (ADA) by the opposition.

The interim leadership is expected to reorganize ADC, embark on nationwide mobilization and prepare for a national convention in 2026, during which a substantive National Working Committee (NWC) will be elected.

Persecondnews recalls that ADC was founded in 2005 by Ralph Nwosu first as Alliance for Democratic Change but was later renamed to African Democratic Congress when it was registered with INEC) in 2006.

The party’s ideology is rooted in Pan-Africanism, aiming to promote democratic principles, good governance, and inclusive development.
