President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made history as the first Nigerian leader to embark on a state visit to Saint Lucia. He arrived at Hewanorra International Airport to a warm reception from Governor-General Cyril Charles and Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre, with full military honors marking the moment.

Since his arrival, President Tinubu has met with the Prime Minister for bilateral talks aimed at deepening diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties between Nigeria and the Caribbean. His visit is part of Nigeria’s broader agenda to expand South–South cooperation under its foreign policy pillars: Democracy, Development, Diaspora, and Demography.

On Monday, Tinubu addressed a joint session of Saint Lucia’s Senate and House of Assembly, delivering a speech focused on shared heritage, diaspora unity, and future collaboration in education, trade, and youth development. The session was attended by top officials, including leaders of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).

So far, the visit has been widely praised for reaffirming Nigeria’s leadership role in Africa-to-Caribbean relations and opening new channels for mutual growth.
