Mr. Olufemi Soneye, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has announced his resignation from his role, effective immediately.

In a letter released on Saturday, Soneye expressed his gratitude for the support and professionalism he received from professional colleagues during his 20-month tenure.

He said: “It has been a profound honour to serve both the Company and our country, and to contribute in my own way to the ongoing transformation of NNPC Ltd.

“I am deeply grateful for the trust reposed in me, the opportunities granted, and the incredible professionals both within and outside the organization with whom I have worked.

“I remain a steadfast supporter and ambassador of NNPC Ltd wherever I go. I enjoin you, dear colleagues, to continue your robust, balanced, and constructive reportage in support of the Company’s noble mission and strategic role in Nigeria’s energy future.”

Soneye’s leadership in corporate communication at NNPCL has been exemplary, and impactful.

He has been instrumental in shaping and amplifying the company’s story, building a vibrant and effective communications presence for the national energy company.

During his tenure, Soneye’s exceptional skill and integrity earned him the prestigious Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) Spokesperson of the Year 2025 award.

The NIPR 2025 award saw him dominate the Distinguished Spokesperson (Oil and Gas) category, outperforming notable competitors like Chief Chinedu Ukadike and Igo Weli.

Soneye was lauded by the NIPR in 2025 as a diligent spokesperson and adept strategist.

Persecondnews recalls that Soneye’s footprint of an excellent spokesperson at the NIPR contest was also recorded in 2024.

Last year he defeated the spokesperson of Shell Companies in Nigeria, Mr. Michael Adande and the spokesperson of Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals Limited, Dr. Johnson Nkwocha to clinch the “Distinguished Spokesperson in Oil and Gas” award.
