Nigeria Shines at World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Tunisia, Secures 19 Medals

Team Nigeria Para-Athletics has made its mark on the global stage, bagging an impressive 19 medals at the 19th Edition of the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Tunis, Tunisia.

The team’s stellar performance earned them a second-place overall finish among 61 participating countries.

This remarkable feat underscores Nigeria’s dominance in track and field events across various disability classes.

According to a statement released on Thursday by Mrs. Kehinde Ajayi, the National Sports Commission’s (NSC) Director of Information and PR, this outstanding success was largely due to the dynamic leadership of Mallam Shehu Dikko, the Chairman of the National Sports Commission.

The team’s success is a proof to the athletes’ dedication, strategic backing, and foundational support from officials.

“Nigerian athletes delivered impressive performances, with several claiming multiple podium finishes. Notable athletes include Flora Ugwunwa, Sefiu Ojeley, Alam Ugochi, and Uwak Unyime, who contributed significantly to the team’s medal tally.

“The 19 medals won by Team Nigeria include 10 gold, 6 silver, and 3 bronze,” the statement reads.

Persecondnews reports that the team’s performance reaffirms Nigeria’s position as a powerhouse in para-athletics and sets the stage for even greater glory at future international competitions.

“The President of the Para-Athletics Federation, Rafiu Olawale Etti, played a crucial role in ensuring Nigeria’s successful outing,” the statement added.
