Abuja PDP Secretariat Still Sealed Despite Tinubu’s Order

In spite of President Bola Tinubu’s intervention, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has yet to unseal the national headquarters of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at Wadata Plaza in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.

Persecondnews reports that as of 11 a.m. on Wednesday the facility still remained sealed despite Tinubu’s order to unseal the property and others sealed by the FCTA.

Staff and private security personnel were seen outside the building unable to enter the building to perform their duties.

Persecondnews reported on May 26 that an FCTA task force has sealed several properties, including the PDP National Secretariat, on Monday at about 2:06 p.m. due to unpaid ground rent.

The FCTA had previously announced plans to repossess 4,794 properties that had defaulted on ground rent payments for 10 to 43 years, amounting to a total of N6.96 billion.

In response to the sealing, PDP Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum condemned the action as an “act of irresponsibility” by the Federal Government during a National Caucus meeting in Abuja on Monday.

Conversely, Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, defended the operation, asserting its legality and lack of political motivation.

Concerned about the implications of the sealing, President Tinubu on Monday ordered the reopening of the PDP secretariat and other affected properties.

He also granted a 14-day grace period for the outstanding dues to be cleared.

Despite the President’s directive, the PDP office remains sealed.

However, a source within the party informed Persecondnews that efforts are currently underway to resolve the issue and facilitate the reopening of the office.
