In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering vulnerable farmers and transforming agriculture in Nigeria, the NNPC Foundation has launched a comprehensive training programme targeting 6,000 participants.

The opening ceremony of the training event was held at the Ilora Baptist Grammar School at Idi-Igba, Oyo, Oyo State on Tuesday.

The Managing Director of NNPC Ltd Foundation, Dr. Bala David, said at the occasion that the programme is designed to address key challenges faced by farmers, including limited access to modern techniques, quality inputs, and competitive markets.

He said: “As we gather here today we must acknowledge the pressing reality of food insecurity in Nigeria. Zones are currently facing.

“Through this initiative we will train 6,000 vulnerable farmers across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, in modern, climate-resilient farming techniques, soil and water management, organic fertilization and post harvest loss reduction strategies.”

David urged participants to fully engage, ask questions, and actively collaborate with the facilitators to maximize the benefits of the training, which is strategically designed to support their growth.

Persecondnews reports that the Phase One of the programme successfully catered to vulnerable farmers from the Southeast, Southsouth, and Southwest regions, achieving remarkable outcomes.

The interactive sessions, conducted in participants’ native dialects, were both empowering and beneficial, as highlighted by testimonials from many attendees.

A standout accomplishment was the turnout in the Southeast region, where 1,890 farmers were trained, surpassing the initial goal of 1,000 participants.

Phase Two is set to focus on the North Central region, promising to expand the programme’s impact even further.

The Managing Director rallied stakeholders and farmers to join forces in revolutionizing agriculture for the progress of communities and the nation at large.

He urged participants to seize the opportunity and collectively transform agriculture into a powerful tool for change.

This landmark training programme signifies a hopeful step toward sustainable agricultural development in Nigeria, ensuring vulnerable farmers are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and support they need to thrive in a competitive agricultural landscape.
