FG Pledges to Meet 2.5m Barrels Per Day Oil Production Target

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to achieving a daily crude oil production goal of 2.5 million barrels.

Speaking at a high-level stakeholders meeting in Yenagoa on Friday, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA), who was represented by Mr. Amachree Young-Harry, emphasized that achieving this target hinges on the collaborative efforts of all relevant parties.

In his address, Ribadu also revealed that a special committee is actively working to prosecute offenders, noting that over 100 suspects have already faced legal action, with 15 recently incarcerated in Port Harcourt prison.

“The President is serious about the 2.5 million barrels, and we are doing everything necessary to reach that goal,” he said.

“The NSA office is taking stiffer action against oil vandals threatening national assets and local communities.”

The Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL) has recorded major successes in safeguarding the Trans-Niger Pipeline (TNP) through close collaboration with host communities, government security agencies, and other key stakeholders.

Dr. Akpos Mezeh, PINL Consultant, Communities Relations, said: “By investing in community needs, resolving disputes, and restoring the environment, PINL has helped reduce crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism.”

Also speaking, the President of Ijaw National Congress (INC), Prof. Benjamin Okaba, called for better agreements and full respect for such terms by both the company and the Federal Government.

Okaba faulted the current provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), especially the three percent allocation to host communities, calling it an “insult.”

He said Ijaw communities have always supported Nigeria’s unity and economic stability.
