A TikTok content creator, Emmanuel Ajibade, was hauled before an Akure Magistrates’ Court on Thursday for allegedly crossing digital lines by cyberbullying a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) official.

Insp. Taiwo Oniyere, the police prosecutor told the court that Ajibade with others still at large committed the offence at the Higher Height Area, Orita Obele in Akure.

According to Oniyere, Ajibade conspired with others with the intent to commit felony, specifically cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and defamation.

The defendant, he said, spread falsehoods via his TikTok handle, @checkers69, to cause annoyance, inconvenience, danger, insults, and criminal defamation.

He said: “His action also resulted in intimidation, enmity and hatred, ill will and needless anxiety for Ibitoye Samuel, an official of FRSC in the state.”

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Sections 27(b) and 24(b) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition and Prevention) Act 2015, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria.

Oniyere urged the court to remand the defendant in the Correctional Centre in accordance to the Section 269 Sub-section 2( b) of the law of the federation.

The defendant’s counsel, Mr. A.F. Awala, requested a short adjournment to enable the defence to file a counter-affidavit to the application.

In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi, remanded the defendant at the SWAT Police Station and asked the police to cater for the health of the defendant.

The case has been adjourned until April 30, 2025 for mention.
