FCT Police warn against unauthorized hiking, camping

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has issued a stern warning to the public, particularly youth groups and hiking enthusiasts, to refrain from organizing camping and hiking activities without first notifying the relevant security agencies.

This move is aimed at ensuring public safety and security, and comes as the police continue to crack down on criminal activities in the FCT, such as the recent destruction of a bandits’ camp and the arrest of four suspects.

In a statement sent to Persecondnews on Tuesday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said Police Commissioner Ajao Adewale warned of huge security risks associated with such outings, particularly in remote and unsecured locations.

The statement reads: “The FCT Police Command advises members of the public, especially youth groups, organizations, and hiking enthusiasts, to take necessary precautions before engaging in camping and hiking activities.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, stresses that organizers must inform the police before embarking on such activities.

“Failure to do so poses significant security risks, as remote locations are often vulnerable to criminal activities.”

CP Adewale underscored the need for proper coordination with law enforcement to ensure safe routes and adequate security arrangements.

It added: “The Command urges organizers to liaise with the police to obtain guidance on safe routes and ensure all participants are accounted for throughout the activity.

“It is essential to verify that everyone returns safely and in the same order to avoid cases of missing persons or unforeseen incidents.

“Effective communication with law enforcement before and during these activities can significantly reduce safety risks and enhance response efficiency in emergencies.
