President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Ibrahim Oloriegbe as the Chairman of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

The appointment, which took effect on March 11, 2025, will be for an initial term of four years.

Dr. Oloriegbe, a former Kwara Central Senator, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He represented Kwara Central Senatorial District at the 9th Senate of the National Assembly and served as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health from 2019 to 2023.

He also chaired the Joint National Assembly Committee on Health.

The appointment was disclosed in a statement on Sunday by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

The new NHIA chairman holds a Master’s degree in Coaching and Consultation from the University of Oxford, UK, and HEC, Paris, and a Bachelor’s of Medicine and Surgery from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State.

He is a member of several professional associations, including the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and the International Aids Society (IAS).
