FCT Police Seize 488 pieces of AK-47 Rifles, Ammunition Hidden in Palm Oil Containers, Arrest Suspect

The FCT Police Command has made another significant breakthrough in its efforts to ensure public safety and prevent crime with the apprehending of a suspect in possession of 488 AK-47 rifles and live ammunition, cleverly hidden in two 25-litre jerrycans filled with palm oil.

This ingenious concealment method highlights the increasing sophistication of criminal activity, making the police’s achievement all the more impressive.

Persecondnews reports that the operation was carried out on Monday March 24 by police operatives from the Nyanya Division in collaboration with officials of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

It led to the arrest of 32-year-old Nuhu Aminu from Katsina State at the Nyanya bus terminal.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said in a statement given to Persecondnews on Monday that the suspect had confessed that he was hired by one Yakubu Kachalla from Funtua, Katsina State, who allegedly paid him N100,000 to retrieve the illicit cargo from an unknown contact in Nasarawa State and transport it to Katsina.

“The suspect is in custody, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend his accomplices and uncover the full extent of this arms-smuggling operation.
