Super Eagles Target Crucial Win Over Rwanda in 2026 World Cup Qualifier

As the Super Eagles gear up to take on Rwanda in a pivotal 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match on March 21, they are adopting a bold mindset – history won’t dictate their fate.

Undaunted by their winless record against Rwanda on their home turf, the Nigerian team is laser-focused on securing a crucial three points.

The Super Eagles are determined to defy history and come out victorious in Rwanda.

“We are not concerned about history books and what has happened before now. Qualification for the FIFA World Cup is our priority,” said team captain William Ekong.

The Super Eagles have had a poor run in their previous four matches, failing to secure a win.

However, with new coach Éric Sékou Chelle at the helm, the team is looking to turn their fortunes around.

“Our objective is to pick the three points and bring some life back into our campaign,” Ekong added.

The team has been training hard in Kigali, with all 23 invited players present at the Radisson Blu nest on Tuesday night.

Star players such as Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Samuel Chukwueze are all set to make life difficult for the Rwandan defense.

Osimhen, who recently became the leading scorer in the Turkish Superlig, is confident of helping his team secure the much-needed win.

FIFA has appointed Moroccan referee Jalal Jayed to take charge of the match, which kicks off at 6 pm Rwanda time (5 pm Nigeria time).

Jayed has previously officiated a match between the Super Eagles and Ghana’s Black Stars, which Nigeria won 2-1.

The Super Eagles will be looking to replicate that performance and secure a crucial win in their bid to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
