President Bola Tinubu has nominated Melvin Ayogu into the board of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and has requested Senate confirmation for the appointment.

This was disclosed by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to Tinubu on Information and Strategy, in a statement on Wednesday.

In addition to Ayogu’s nomination, Tinubu also sought Senate confirmation for Nwakuche Ndidi as Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

Persecondnews reports that the requests were conveyed in letters to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and were read during Tuesday’s plenary.

This is not Tinubu’s first nomination to the CBN board. In February 2024, he nominated Robert Agbide, Ado Wanga, Murtala Sagaley, Urom Eke, and Olayinka Aliyu.

However, Eke rejected the offer due to a conflict of interest, and the Senate confirmed the remaining four nominees on February 29, 2024.

In an interesting twist, Tinubu had initially replaced Eke with Ruby Onwudiwe on March 13, 2024.

He, however, withdrew her nomination a day later due to her affiliation with the Labour Party, an opposition party to the All Progressives Congress.
