FCT Police crack down on car theft, recover 19 stolen vehicles

The crackdown on car theft in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has yielded results, as the Police Command successfully recovered 19 stolen vehicles.

The vehicles were stolen from various locations across the FCT from January to February 2025.

The recovery operation’s scope expanded beyond the FCT, with some of the stolen vehicles being tracked down and recovered in distant locations such as Jos, Niger, and Kaduna.

The FCT Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said in a statement given to Persecondnews on Tuesday that
the recovered vehicles were traced and retrieved through collaborative efforts between different police divisions and specialized units.

The statement reads: “Among them, the Maitama, Bwari, and Gwarimpa divisions each recovered one vehicle, while the Mpape Division recovered three.

“The Central Police Station, Trademore Division, Mabushi Division, Utako Division, Durumi Division, and Kubwa Division each recovered between two and three vehicles.

“The Anti-Car Theft Unit also played a role in securing one of the stolen cars.”

Olatunji Disu, FCT Commissioner of Police, reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding residents and protecting their property.

He advised vehicle owners to take proactive steps to safeguard their cars, emphasizing the crucial role of installing tracking devices, which greatly enhance the likelihood of rapid recovery in the event of theft.

To further fortify vehicle security, the police recommended that the public should consider implementing additional safety measures, including steering wheel locks, pedal locks, alarm systems, and immobilizers, in conjunction with tracking devices.

Residents were further urged to exercise caution by avoiding parking in secluded areas, remaining alert and watchful, and promptly reporting any suspicious activities or incidents to the authorities.

The Command reassured the public of its relentless efforts in combating criminal activities and ensuring that perpetrators face justice.

The statement added: “For reports on stolen vehicles or suspicious activities, residents can reach the command through its emergency lines: 08032003913, 08028940883, and 07057337653. The Complaint Response Unit can also be contacted at 08107314192 or PCB 09022222352.”
