The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) and the African Club Association (ACA) made history on Tuesday, March 11, by signing a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Cairo, Egypt.

This agreement strengthens the partnership between CAF and ACA, formalizing strategic objectives aimed at growing club football on the continent.

One of the key highlights of this MoU is the increased financial support for club football. CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe has introduced a USD 50,000 solidarity fee for all clubs participating in the preliminary stages of the CAF Interclub competition.

This is a first time in the history of CAF Interclub Competitions.

Additionally, the prize money for the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup has been increased by over 40%.

The ACA, launched in November 2023 with the support of Dr. Motsepe, aims to protect and develop a large and healthy professional football sector.

The organization also seeks to invest in and promote the training of young talented players, ensure players benefit from suitable education pathways, and promote fair play while fighting against racism, doping, violence, match-fixing, and corruption in football.

The MoU also noted the importance of strong national championships and international competitions organized by CAF.

Both parties have resolved to resolve sports-related disputes within the appropriate resolution structures and foster a closer working relationship to ensure national team and club football provides substantial benefits to players, clubs, leagues, and member associations.
