Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, has announced a provisional list of 39 players for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
Head Coach Éric Sékou Chelle named a strong squad that includes notable players such as William Ekong, Ahmed Musa, Victor Osimhen, and Ademola Lookman.
The Super Eagles are currently struggling in the qualifiers, having failed to win any of their four matches played so far.
With three draws and a loss, they have managed just three points, while Rwanda, South Africa, and Benin all have seven points each.
Chelle is likely optimistic that his team will bounce back from their recent struggles and secure crucial victories to get their season back on track.
The squad includes goalkeepers Stanley Nwabali and Maduka Okoye, defenders Calvin Bassey and Olaoluwa Aina, midfielders Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi, and forwards Samuel Chukwueze and Simon Moses.
There are also returns for home-based goalkeeper Kayode Bankole, defender Jordan Torunarigha, midfielder Joseph Ayodele-Aribo, and forwards Cyriel Dessers and Nathan Tella.
Nigeria will face Rwanda in Kigali on March 21 and Zimbabwe in Uyo on March 25.
The Super Eagles will need to win both matches to get their qualifying campaign back on track.
Chelle is confident that his team can deliver the goods and make the country proud.
The final list of 23 players will be announced later, and the team will begin their preparations for the qualifiers in earnest.
