In a significant move to expand educational opportunities and infrastructure in Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu has approved provisional licences for 11 new private universities.
This development was announced at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held at the State House, Abuja, on Monday.
According to the Special Adviser om Media and Public Communication to President Tinubu Mr. Sunday Dare, the president is “committed to expanding the frontiers of educational opportunities and infrastructure.”
This commitment is evident in the government’s efforts to increase access to quality education, particularly in the private sector, he said.
The newly approved universities are:
– New City University, Ayetoro, Ogun State
– University of Fortune, Igbotako, Ondo State
– Eranova University, Mabushi
– Minaret University, Ikirun, Osun Annex
– Abubakar Toyin University, Oke-Agba, Kwara State
– Southern Atlantic University, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State
– Lens University, Ilemona, Kwara State
– Monarch University, Iyesi-Ota, Ogun State
– Tonnie Iredia University of Communication, Benin City
– Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management, Lagos
– Kevin Eze University, Mgbowo, Enugu State
This brings the total number of private universities in Nigeria to 161, with the country’s university system now boasting 285 institutions.
The approval of these new universities is expected to increase access to higher education, particularly in underserved regions.
