A 31-year-old Sunday Jimoh tragically lost his life in a desperate attempt to recover his phone from a well at Laditan community in Oja-Odan area of Ogun State on Saturday, February 22.
The deceased, who drowned in the well at about 10:O8 am, had reportedly ignored warnings by a neighbour not to enter the deep well for the retrieval of the phone.
A resident, Mr. Kabiru Aladeshayi Ayigbere, said he had earlier witnessed the deceased’s attempt to enter the well near his shop.
“Jimoh reportedly insisted on retrieving a phone that had accidentally fallen into the well, despite warnings against the dangerous act.
“Regrettably, while Aladeshayi was away, Jimoh entered the well and unfortunately, he drowned,” Ogun Police Command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, said while confirming the tragic deatth in a statement on Sunday.
“Upon receiving the report, detectives swiftly responded to the scene, and rescue experts were contacted to recover the body. A preliminary investigation found no signs of violence, confirming that the incident was an unfortunate accident.
“The family of the deceased has been notified, and they requested to bury the remains in accordance with Muslim rites.
“The Ogun State Police Command expresses its deep condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased and urges the public to exercise caution when dealing with such hazardous situations,” she stated.
