The House of Representatives witnessed another defection on Thursday as Yusuf Galambi, a lawmaker representing Gwaram federal constituency of Jigawa State, dumped the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
His defection was formally announced in a letter read by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas during Thursday’s plenary session.
The lawmaker said his defection was due to a directive from his constituency and the leadership crisis within the NNPP.
He said: “This is not a personal decision but a directive from the constituency I represent.”
A gale of defections has been recorded in the House recently.
Persecondnews recalls that Rep. Amos Magaji, representing Jaba/Zango Kataf Federal Constituency of Kaduna, defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC on February 11, 2025.
Rep. Chris Nkwonta, representing Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency, defected from the PDP to the APC on October 2, 2024, citing a faction within his party as the reason for his departure.
Also, Rep. Eriatheke Ibori-Suenu, representing Ethiope federal constituency, on Thursday, December 5, 2024, announced her defection from PDP to APC in a letter addressed to the Speaker and read on the floor of the House.
