President Bola Tinubu has emphasized the importance of Africa focusing on internal trade to drive growth and prosperity for its people.
By improving intra-African trade, the continent can reduce its reliance on external markets and unlock its full economic potential.
This approach aligns with the goals of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which aims to create a single market for goods and services, boosting economic integration and development.
In a statement on his official X account on Monday, Tinubu noted that Africa has the resources, people, and capacity to develop itself.

“We have the resources, the people, and the capacity. We must look inward to improve intra-African trade and collaboration to benefit the African people and the continent,” he said.

Tinubu’s remarks came on the eve of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW 2025), where he is scheduled to participate alongside other global leaders.

Persecondnews reports that the President had successful conversations with Rwandan President Paul Kagame, ahead of the summit, which aims to accelerate sustainable development and advance socioeconomic progress.

The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, taking place from January 12 to 18, will bring together policymakers, businesses, and civil society leaders to explore pathways to a sustainable economy.

Tinubu’s participation in the summit is seen as a significant step towards promoting Africa’s interests on the global stage.

As the President departed Abuja for Abu Dhabi, he reiterated his commitment to Africa’s development.

“The time for Africa is now. We can. We must. We will,” he said, echoing his determination to drive progress on the continent.
