Shock and grief has hit Jigawa State as the governor’s son and mother passed away within 24 hours.

Governor Umar Namadi’s eldest son, Abdulwahab Umar Namadi, died in a fatal road mishap barely 24 hours after he lost his mother, Hajiya Maryam Namadi.

Abdulwahab was returning from Kafin Hausa to Dutse with his friends when the vehicle he was driving lost control and somersaulted.

Abdulwahab reportedly died on the spot his friends sustained various degrees of injury and are currently receiving treatment at Dutse General Hospital.

Gov. Namadi said at the funeral:“It is Allah’s will, and we cannot question it. I urge everyone to remember us in their prayers during this challenging period.”

Jigawa Information Commissioner, Malam Sagir Musa, stated:“We mourn with His Excellency and his family. This is indeed a painful moment for all of us in Jigawa State. May Allah grant the deceased Aljannah Firdaus.”

Meanwhile, the Southern Governors Forum has expressed its deepest condolences to the governor over the loss of his son and mother.

In a statement on Friday, Ogun Governor and Chairman of the forum, Dapo Abiodun, said the tragic events coming in quick succession could break anyone’s spirit.

He said, however, that the forum took solace in the life that the deceased lived, urging the bereaved governor to take solace in the fact that his loved ones are in the bosom of Allah.

He said: “I and members of the Southern Governors Forum can hardly find the words to describe the devastating news of the loss of our brother and Governor of Jigawa State, H.E Umar Namadi’s son, Abdulwahab, in a road accident, just a day after the death of his very dear mother, Alhaja Maryam Namadi. Abdulwahab Umar Namadi, a young man full of life, died in a motor accident along the Dutse-Kafin-Hausa Road, on Thursday.

In his Instagram post, Boniface expressed gratitude for the opportunity to play for his country, saying, "Proud to play for my country and a dream for me also. Really enjoyed every moment, the good and the bad. Thanks a lot. "Thank you all. I don hang boot." However, fans were not convinced, given his history of social media jokes and lighthearted antics. The international friendly match between Russia and Nigeria ended in a 1-1 draw. Russia took the lead in the 27th minute when Semi Ajayi scored an own goal, deflecting a cross from Danil Krugovoy into the net. Despite dominating the game, Nigeria struggled to find the back of the net until Tolu Arokodare, who replaced Boniface in the 61st minute, scored the equalizer in the 71st minute. Arokodare's goal was a testament to his impact on the game, and it salvaged a draw for the Super Eagles. Nigeria's goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, also made crucial saves to prevent Russia from scoring further. The draw maintained Eric Chelle's unbeaten record as Super Eagles coach, with three wins and two draws so far. He failed to score or create significant chances, leading to his substitution in favour of Arokodare.
