…There was no reason for Taye to be at Pasuma’s 40 years on stage party—Spokesperson

Tensions between Fuji music legends Wasiu Alabi Pasuma and his former protégé, Taye Akande Adebisi (also known as Taye Currency), have escalated, with no signs of a resolution in sight.

It was reliably gathered that both parties will not shift grounds on the matter even as efforts were made to reconcile them before Taye’s 50th birthday and Pasuma’s 40 years on stage celebration.

According to sources, Taye may have postponed the big party to the first week of January 2025, and there are feelers that a reunion might spring up at the event.

Their ongoing feud came to light this week as they openly ignored each other’s milestone celebrations, leaving fans and industry observers stunned.

The tension began when Taye Currency celebrated his 50th birthday in grand style.

However, Pasuma, known for his usual public support for colleagues, conspicuously avoided the event, a move that many interpreted as a deliberate snub.

Pasuma’s absence was a stark contrast to his reputation for fostering goodwill within the Fuji music community.

In response, Currency retaliated by boycotting Pasuma’s highly anticipated 40 Years on Stage celebration the very next day in Lagos.

Despite the event being a sold-out success, Taye’s absence was keenly felt, especially given their history as close collaborators.

The celebration saw Fuji music royalty, including King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1), Saheed Osupa, Sule Malaika, Sefiu Alao, and others, alongside Nollywood stars, showing up to honour Pasuma’s legacy.

Speaking with R, Currency’s spokesperson, Tope Eluyefa, dismissed suggestions of malice, stating, “Taye didn’t attend because he was busy hosting guests for his 50th birthday. There was no reason for him to be there.”

There was, however, no word from Pasuma’s camp on why he refused to felicitate Taye on his big day.

Sources close to the Fuji star revealed that Pasuma was preoccupied with preparations for his Lagos event and did not want anything to overshadow his own milestone celebration.

A source further disclosed that Pasuma is resolute about maintaining his stance.

“Pasuma will not budge this time,” the insider said.

“He’s made it clear to his camp and some of his loyal fans not to respond to any further tantrums or shades from Taye’s circle. He’s focused on his legacy and won’t be dragged into unnecessary drama.”

The feud has reportedly been simmering for weeks, with attempts by Fuji music veterans to mediate peace proving futile.

Sources claim that mutual grievances, jealousy, and lingering misunderstandings have widened the rift, leaving both artists unwilling to compromise.

“Pasuma’s silence on Taye’s birthday sent a strong message,” an industry insider shared.

“It’s his way of drawing a line in the sand. By refusing to celebrate Taye publicly, he’s showing the world that he’s moved on.”

Fans have expressed disappointment at the public nature of their fallout, with many calling for the two artistes to set aside their differences for the sake of the Fuji music community.

“It’s sad to see them like this,” one fan lamented.

“They’ve both contributed so much to the genre. This rivalry is hurting their legacy.”

The rift has not only shocked fans but also sparked concerns among industry stakeholders, who fear the feud could create divisions within the close-knit Fuji music circle.

Despite the drama, Pasuma’s 40 Years on Stage event delivered memorable performances and celebrated his enduring impact on Fuji music.

However, the absence of Currency left a noticeable void, with many wondering if the rift can ever be mended.
