President Bola Tinubu made a surprising declaration during his 2025 budget presentation at the National Assembly on Wednesday, telling lawmakers they were “all re-elected.”
This announcement came after he mistakenly referred to the 10th Senate as the 11th.
Tinubu’s humorous comments, made after correcting his mistake, brought laughter and applause from the lawmakers, effectively breaking the ice and easing the formal atmosphere of the event.
Tinubu said: “In fulfilment of one of my constitutional duties and with an unyielding commitment to rebuilding Nigeria towards ensuring that we remain steadfast on a journey to a prosperous future, I hereby present the 2025 budget to the joint session of the National Assembly.”
After being reminded by lawmakers that they were the 10th National Assembly, Tinubu responded humorously, saying: “10th? I wrote 11th, which means you’re all re-elected.”
Tinubu arrived at the National Assembly at 12:10 PM to present the 2025 budget proposal, which was formally received by lawmakers and top government officials.
The proposed budget of ₦4.9 trillion outlines the expenditure priorities for 2025, with key allocations and their implications set to be debated in upcoming sessions.
