Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived at the Drydocks World Dubai Shipyard in Dubai to represent President Bola Tinubu at the naming and inauguration ceremonies of Oriental Energy Resources Limited’s Floating, Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) vessel.
He is accompanied by a high-profile delegation, including Nasarawa  Gov. Abdullahi Sule, his Borno State counterpart, Gov. Babagana Zulum, and the Special Adviser to the President Aliyu Modibbo Umar.
Notably, the event marks a significant milestone for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, as Oriental Energy Resources Limited is a fully Nigerian-owned company.

According to a post on his official X handle on Saturday, Mr. Stanley Nkwocha Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President) he said the EMEM FPSO field, when operating at full capacity, is expected to produce up to 30,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi, Executive Chairman of Oriental Energy Resources Limited said the project was awarded on January 22, 2022, and the vessel was bought in February 2022.

Despite facing challenges due to the war in Ukraine and the COVID-19 pandemic, the project has persevered, with Hassan Basma, Founder and CEO of HBA Future Energy, quoting Nelson Mandela, saying “It seemed impossible until it was done.”

The commissioning of the $315 million facility marks an important milestone for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, showcasing the growing influence of indigenous companies on the global stage.

Shettima’s presence underscores the administration’s commitment to supporting local enterprises with international operations.

After the event, the Vice President will proceed to Saudi Arabia to perform the lesser hajj (Umrah) and hold a bilateral meeting with the President of the Islamic Development Bank.
