The National Sports Commission (NSC) has activated the ‘Adopt-an-Athlete’ Training Grant initiative, with Nigerian track and field star, Ese Brume, as its first beneficiary.

The initiative aims to provide financial support for Nigerian athletes’ training and development, ensuring they have the resources needed to compete at the highest levels of global sports.

The NSC Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, commended Confetti Assets Limited for its generous support, stating the importance of public-private partnerships in driving sports development in Nigeria.

“We must create a system that does not solely depend on government funding but rather leverages private sector partnerships to achieve a thriving sports economy,” Dikko said.

The Director General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, explained that the Commission has activated an innovative approach to raising funds for athletes’ development, elite sports, and grassroots initiatives.

“We have an ingenious way of raising funds through donations. With the Chairman’s approval, we approached key stakeholders, particularly contractors involved in developing sports infrastructure nationwide,” Olopade said.

Ese Brume, who was recently involved in a ghastly car accident, will receive a training grant to support her recovery and training for the World Championship in September 2025.

The Adopt-the-Athlete initiative is expected to significantly impact the careers of elite and grassroots athletes, with the backing of strategic partners like Confetti Assets Limited.
