The Nigerian Government has called for South Africa’s cooperation on the certification of geologists and other professionals in Nigeria.

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Amb. Bianca Ojukwu, made the appeal during her opening remarks as co-chair of the 11th Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) Ministerial Meeting, held Monday in Cape Town, South Africa.

Ojukwu emphasized the enduring bond between Nigeria and South Africa, dating back to the establishment of the BNC in 1999.

She urged participants to engage in discussions with enthusiasm and mutual trust, fostering stronger bilateral ties between the two nations.

Addressing the need for collaboration, the minister said: “We are seeking collaboration with South Africa in capacity development in the area of certification of geologists and other professionals.”

She disclosed that Nigeria had prepared Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for South Africa’s consideration, aimed at enhancing the global competitiveness of Nigerian mining professionals.

The minister reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to fostering stronger partnerships with South Africa for mutual benefits.

She added: “This project holds a lot of promise for the future of Nigeria-South Africa relations.”

Persecondnews had reported that President Bola Tinubu will travel to Cape Town, South Africa, today, Monday, December 2, 2024, as part of his international engagements.

During the visit, Tinubu will co-chair the 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) alongside South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
