Ese Ukpeseraye, a Nigerian cyclist, thanked the German team for its intervention by providing a bike for her impromptu Keirin and Sprint events at the Olympics in Paris.
Ukpeseraye stated this via her official X-handle on Thursday.
In her terse statement, she said: “Due to the short notice of me competing at the Keirin & Sprint, #teamNigeria had no bicycle to race with on the tracks. In the spirit of sportsmanship, the German team @bunddeutscherradfahr came to my rescue by offering me a bicycle. Thank you.”
Persecondnews recalls that Ukpeseraye became the first Nigerian ever to compete in cycling at the Olympics.
She participated in the cycling road event, but due to a DNF, her time was not recorded.
