The Minister of Sports Development, Sen. John Enoh, says home-based athletes representing Nigeria at the Games have received training grants similar to their foreign-based counterparts as part of efforts to ensure equity and boost the morale and welfare of Team Nigeria athletes.
Enoh disclosed this during another round of interactive sessions with the athletes at the Games Village in Paris, France, on Tuesday.
The meeting, according to Persecondnews, aimed to address concerns and provide updates on the status of allowances and training grants for all athletes.
Diana-Mary Nsan, the Special Assistant on Media, highlighted in a statement that home-based athletes had previously expressed concerns about not receiving training grants, a privilege typically granted to their foreign-based counterparts.
The minister acknowledged this oversight and emphasized the need for equitable treatment for all athletes representing the country.
Enoh said: “For the first time ever, we have ensured that home-based athletes representing Nigeria also receive training grants.
“Both foreign and home-based athletes have now been provided with training grants, in addition to all other allowances that have already been paid.
“This initiative recognizes that all athletes, regardless of their base, contribute significant effort and passion in representing our country. They are all deserving of this support.”
The Minister also confirmed that the athletes have received all local, foreign, and Olympic allowances, guaranteeing them sufficient support as they compete globally.
