Tinubu urges Nigerian youths to shelve August 1 national protests

“The issue of the planned protest, Mr. President, does not see any need for that. He’s asked them to shelve that plan. He’s asked them to await the government’s response to all their pleas

President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to shelve the planned ‘EndBadGovernance’ protest set for August 1.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mr. Mohammed Idris, conveyed Tinubu’s message at a media briefing with State House correspondents on Tuesday.

Idris urged Nigerians to wait for President Tinubu’s swift response to all of their concerns.

“The issue of the planned protest, Mr. President, does not see any need for that. He’s asked them to shelve that plan. He’s asked them to await the government’s response to all their pleas,” Persecondnews quotes Idris as saying.

The protest, currently gaining traction in the North and other parts of the country, aims to bring the plight of the citizens to the attention of all levels of government.

Persecondnews recalls that angry youths and women had on February 9, took to the streets of Minna, the Niger State capital, and Kano to protest the astronomical rise in prices of food and other essential commodities in the market.

In a similar vein, some civil society groups, including the “Take It Back Movement,” the Education Rights Campaign, the Coalition for Revolution, and the Socialist Workers League, protested on June 12 against the surging cost of living, insecurity, and other challenges facing the nation.
