Gunmen kidnap police orderly, driver of prominent Rivers monarch

Unknown gunmen have kidnapped a police officer and the driver of a prominent traditional ruler in Rivers State.
The victims were abducted at 8 p.m. on Saturday at the Eagle Island residence of His Royal Highness, Chief Cornwell Ihunwo.
Persecondnews reports that Ihunwo is the paramount ruler of the Rumu-Elechi community in Nkpolu-Orowurokwo, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area.
An executive member of Diobu Vigilante and Chief Security Officer of Nkpolu-Orowurokwo, Mr. Godstime Ihunwo, said the gunmen had targeted the traditional ruler.
He said, “I received a call about the abduction of HRH Cornwell Ihunwo about 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2024. I rushed down to his house on Eagle Island, where I met him. Chief Cornwell told me it was his driver and the police orderly who were abducted.
“We condemn the planned abduction of HRH Cornwell Ihunwo and call on the police to ensure a thorough investigation into the incident.”
The State Police Command’s spokesman, Superintendent of Police Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, saying investigations are ongoing.
