A deadly robbery attack occurred at the Sunshine Homes estate in Abuja’s Lokogoma district on Saturday, claiming the life of retired Army Brigadier General Uwem Harold Udokwere.
The attackers struck under the cover of night, targeting the upscale estate, according to the police.
In a statement, SP Josephine Adeh said the robbers clashed with Brigadier General Udokwere, who valiantly tried to fend them off.
Tragically, he suffered mortal wounds in the attack and succumbed to injuries at the scene.
Adeh said: “The Commissioner of Police in the FCT, Benneth Igweh, has expressed profound sorrow over the loss and extended his condolences to the bereaved family.
“This is a deeply regrettable and tragic event. We assure the family and the public that we will leave no stone unturned in our investigation. The perpetrators of this heinous crime will be apprehended and brought to justice.”
The police said they have instituted a thorough and exhaustive investigation into the incident’s circumstances.
Adeh said: “Our commitment is to ensure swift justice, urging anyone with information to come forward.
“This attack has raised concerns about the security situation in Abuja, particularly in residential areas previously considered safe.
“The audacity of the robbers has left many residents in fear, prompting calls for enhanced security measures. The police authority has also increased the number of police officers on the road to tackle the menace.”
