President Bola Tinubu’s first anniversary in office on May 29 will be devoid of the usual fanfare, according to Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris.
The minister said shunning ceremonies is in line with the current “economic tightness” in the country.
Idris made this statement on Wednesday at a world news conference to commemorate the event.
Sen. George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and Alhaji Abubakar Bagudu, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, attended the media briefing.
The Minister emphasized that the low-key celebration was a deliberate choice in response to prevailing national conditions, underscoring the administration’s sensitivity to the country’s challenges.
Idris said the celebration would focus on sectoral debates instead of the usual pomp and splendor.
He said: “The anniversary is going to be low-key; there will be no major ceremony but sectoral briefings by the ministers.
“The essence is to ensure that government funds are kept for the people.”
The Information Minister said the debate would focus on eight key sectors of governance.
