James Faleke, a member of the House of Representatives, has hit back at Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, over allegations that the lawmaker was pressuring the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to manipulate the outcome of the Osun governorship election.

Davido, nephew of Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke, had accused Faleke of attempting to influence the electoral process and urged him to respect the wishes of the people.

“Hon. James Faleke, stop putting pressure on INEC to change Osun election result. Respect the wishes of Osun people. We don’t want Oyetola and AMBO,” Davido wrote on X.

Responding to the singer, Faleke said he travelled to Osun to campaign for the candidate of his party, just as Davido threw his weight behind Accord, the political platform supported by his uncle.

“I came to Osun to support my party’s candidate, while you supported your uncle’s party (Accord),” Faleke said.

Faleke dismissed Davido’s allegation that he was capable of influencing INEC or altering the outcome of the election, insisting that the electoral body was independent.

“INEC is a body that can’t be influenced by me or anyone else. I have never influenced or rigged before and I don’t plan to start now,” he said.

Taking a swipe at the singer, Faleke added: “Face your music while we face our politics.”

The exchange followed Davido’s renewed criticism of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with the singer declaring that he would never support the ruling party.

“I CAN NEVER SUPPORT APC IN MY LIFE!!!” Davido had written on X.
