Again, the national grid has collapsed, the sixth in 2024, plunging the nation into darkness.

Report reaching Persecondnews said the grid shut down at about 10:05 am on Monday, reducing the megawatt to 629.

Persecondnews recalls that Nigeria has witnessed its sixth power grid collapse in 2024as electricity generation on the system shut down on Monday, April 15.

Nigeria generates an average of 4,000 MW of electricity for an estimated 200 million citizens across the country.

Sources said the pressure to satisfy Band A customers’ demands could be the cause of the grid collapse.

Under the new arrangement approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), customers in Band A receive at least 20 hours of supply per day.

DisCos and TCN have been accusing each other over their inability to fulfil their contractual duties.

The TCN’s technical arm, the Independent System Operator (SO), reports that at 10:53 on Monday, 770 MW of electricity were distributed to ten distribution companies (DisCos).

The Load Distribution Profile paper states that Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) received 0 MW.
