I joined Super Falcons by chance – sensational star Michelle Alozie

"The 25-year-old athlete described her connection with the team and eventual inclusion as a divinely ordained plan"

Super Falcons sensational star Michelle Alozie has disclosed that she became part of the Nigerian national women’s team by chance, and since then she has not looked back.

Persecondnews recalls that the Nigerian defender made her international debut with the Super Falcons on June 10, 2021, as a 65th-minute substitute in a 0-1 friendly loss to Jamaica.

The Houston Dash player recently shared the strange tale of how coach Randy Waldrum and his background staff chose her.

The 25-year-old athlete claimed that God had ordained a plan for her to connect with the team, and she eventually joined the squad.

She said; “I always say it’s a fluke. But maybe it was like God setting a plan for me.

“They (the Super Falcons of Nigeria) came for the U.S.SheBelieves Cup. The team faced numerous visa issues during the Cup. They almost had to withdraw from the cup because they didn’t have enough players.

“The coach then, Randy Waldrum, reached out (I’m not even joking) to maybe every Nigerian-American (woman) that was playing soccer in the U.S. just so that we could fill the roster.

“He (Waldrum) had no idea who I was, and I just happened to be in Houston and happened to be Nigerian-American. It was like a perfect scenario.

“They (Waldrum’s coaching crew) came to one training session, and they were like, see you at training tomorrow.

“And then I trained with them for one day, and he was like…Amazing! You’ll make the roster for tomorrow’s game. And I was like, Oh, alright! I guess I’m here, I guess I’m playing now, and ever since then I’ve been on the national.” team.”

She also mentioned in the interview that she frequently spends the afternoon at the lab, where she works as a cancer research technician, after a morning of training with the Houston Dash.

Alozie’s first love was football, but when her boots aren’t laced up, she is driven by the desire to help people, working specifically with young children.

She added: “I think sometimes I might feel like I’m not doing enough for either soccer or in my research lab.

“At first, it was definitely a little bit difficult to balance the two, but I think overall I’m just grateful. It’s two of my passions, and what makes it worthwhile is that I just love doing both of them.

“It is amazing and a blessing to be able to live my passion and my childhood dream.”

Alozie is expected to be part of the Super Falcons squad that will represent Nigeria in the women’s football category at the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics.
