Tinubu said that with the submission of a final comprehensive report and the winding up of all apparatus used during the scope of the task, the assignment terminated on March 31.
President Bola Tinubu lauded Obazee, a former CEO of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC), for successfully concluding his assignment spanning several months.
In a statement by presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale on Friday in Abuja, Tinubu acknowledged Obazee’s dedication and professionalism “in handling the complexities of this critical national assignment.”
He declared the investigations formally closed, saying “all appropriate law enforcement and regulatory agencies are already conducting follow-up actions.”
Tinubu said that with the submission of a final comprehensive report and the winding up of all apparatus used during the scope of the task, the assignment terminated on March 31.
“I thank you (Obazee) for answering the call to duty and wish you success in your future endeavours.”
Persecondnews recalls that on July 30, 2023, President Tinubu had appointed Obazee as a Special Investigator to probe the activities of the Central Bank of Nigeria and other related entities.
In a letter dated 28 July, Tinubu said the appointment of Mr Obazee, relying on the fundamental objective set forth in Section 15(5) of the Nigerian constitution, was in furtherance of his administration’s anti-corruption fight.
The appointment was with immediate effect and Mr Obazee was to report directly to the president.
