No fewer than 30 people, mostly women and children, have been killed in a fresh attack by gunmen in the Mangu local government area of Plateau State.

Houses and properties were also destroyed in the attack.

The attack, which happened in the early hours of Wednesday, comes barely 24 hours after the Plateau Governor, Mr. Caleb Mutfwang, imposed a 24-hour curfew in the local government area.

According to reports, the gunmen attacked Kwahaslalek in Mangu and two other communities on the borders of Mangu and Barkin Ladi local government areas.

Persecondnews reports that the governor yesterday declared a 24-hour curfew on the Mangu Local Government Area of the state with immediate effect.

According to him, the decision follows the deteriorating security situation in the area.

“Governor Mutfwang took the decision after consultations with the relevant security agencies,” a statement by the governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, said.

It said the only persons on essential duties are allowed to move within the local government area until further notice.

It urged all citizens, especially residents of Mangu Local Government Area, to comply with the directive and assist the security personnel by providing reliable information to restore peace and order in the area.
