Super Eagles have suffered another injury blow, as Bayern Leverkusen super goal poacher, Victor Boniface, has been ruled out of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) due to injury.

With the continental showpeice less than a week from now, the 23-year-old, picked up a groin injury in training, and was unable to partake in the two friendly games the team played in Abu Dhabi.

This is coming barely a week after injury also ruled Wilfred Ndidi out of AFCON.

Boniface, who resigned to fate, broke the news via an Instagram post and wished the team well in the tournament.

Good luck guys….. Wish you guys all the best at afcon @ng_supereagles,” he wrote.

Persecond News reports that the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) will announce his replacement soon.

Boniface, who has contributed 17 goals in 16 games for Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen this season in the BundesLiga, was set to form a formidable partnership upfront with Napoli hitman and African golden boy Victor Osimhen to breach every obstacle in the final third standing between Nigeria and a fourth continental title.

Nigeria will begin the tournament with its first match against Equatorial Guinea on January 14.
