The Federal Government has extended the free commuter rides on all rail lines from January 4, 2024, as earlier announced, to January 7, 2024.

This was disclosed by the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) on their official website on Thursday.

“Dear Passengers, we are pleased to inform you that train services will be free of charge from December 21, 2023, to January 7, 2024, as per the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
”We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!,” NRC wrote.

Persecondnews recalls that President Bola Tinubu had on December 20 approved free rides for commuters on all train services and 50 per cent reduction in interstate transport fares for Nigerians traveling for the Yuletide from December 21, 2023 to January 4, 2024.

The move by Tinubu was part of efforts to alleviate the financial burden faced by Nigerians during the challenging times, a statement by the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Mr. Dele Alake, obtained by Persecondnews said.
