Grief-stricken Plateau Gov. Caleb Mutfwang has lamented that the Christmas Eve attacks on two local government areas of the state are “unprecedented and monumental”, announcing that death toll from the massacre has risen to more than 115.

Featuring on Tuesday morning on Channels TV programme, Sunrise Daily, monitored by Persecondnews, Mutfwang, said the attacks were unprovoked, and asked the security agencies to help unmask and fish out the sponsors of the carnage and their blood-thirsty foot-soldiers.

Persecondnews had reported the blood-curling coordinated attacks by assailants on about 15 communities in the Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi council areas of the state on Christmas eve with the initial casualties of eight people.

Army Capt. Oya James, spokesman for the military task force in the state, had confirmed the attacks, and assured that troops have been deployed to the area to ensure security of lives and property.

He had said: “Yes, I learned that there was an attack in the village last night. I called the commander on the field and he said they had not got all the sum up.

“But there were loss of lives during the attack and troops had been deployed in the communities in the general areas.”

The terrorists had set several houses on fire on Sunday night and also looted farm produce as well as destroyed properties after they butchered the villagers.

Gov. Mutfwang said:”Just when we had finished preparations for Christmas, unprovoked attacks were unleashed on our communities.

“As I am talking to you, in Mangu Local Government alone, we buried 15 people. As at this morning, in Bokkos, we are counting over 100 corpses. Not to talk of that of Barkin-Ladi.”

Describing the attacks as unprecedented and monumental, the governor said the assailants had intended to break the spirit of the people during Christmas and pull down the two local governments

“But they remained unfazed,” the chapfallen Plateau chief executive said.
