The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed the provisional 41- man squad of the Nigerian Super Eagles ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

CAF unveiled the list on its official website on Wednesday morning.

Persecond News reports that three home-based players – Ojo Olorunleke, Amas Obasogie and Christian Nwoke -are included in the provisional list.

Newly-crowned African Footballer of the Year, Victor Osimhen, leads the “troops of the regular suspects” which also includes Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze, Kelechi Iheanacho, Daddy Moses Simon and Odinaka Francis Uzoho.

Team captain Ahmed Musa and Kenneth Omeruo – the only two players in the team to have won the AFCON previously are also included in the provisional list in spite of Musa’s exclusion from the team’s last two international windows.

Although the NFF has not officially confirmed the final selection, football enthusiasts are abuzz with excitement as the Super Eagles prepare to navigate through Group A, clashing against Equatorial Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire, and Guinea-Bissau in pursuit of AFCON glory.

The tournament will be held in Cote d’Ivoire from January 13 to February 11, 2024 and the teams have until December 14, 2023 to submit provisional squads of not more than 55 players which will be later cut down to 27.
