Army Chief Lagbaja visits Kaduna after military drone killed 85 villagers

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja on Tuesday visited Kaduna State after a deadly military air strike killed at least 85 people and injured several others on Sunday night.

Gen. Lagbaja visited Tudun Biri village in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where a gathering of villagers observing Maulud festivities were struck by the Army firepower for an on-the-spot assessment of the community and to condole with the families of the victims.

Persecondnews reports that earlier, the army acknowledged that one of its drones aimed at armed groups had accidentally struck the Tudun Biri village while residents were celebrating the Muslim festival, adding that its drone was a routine mission that “inadvertently affected members of the community”.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the bombing mishap in Kaduna State, and called for calm while the authorities look diligently into the sad incident.

The President expressed sadness over the killing of the villagers as he sympathized with the families of the victims, the people and the government of Kaduna State.

In a statement on Tuesday by his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tiinubu described the incident as very unfortunate, disturbing, and painful.
