Aftermath of his impeachment, the Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government in Ogun State, Mr Wale Adedayo, has been hauled up before an Abeokuta court and subsequently remanded in prison.

Adedayo, a journalist, is facing a two-count charge of allegedly publishing a false story about local government funds and diversion by the state government at a Customary Court 2, Isabo, Abeokuta.

Adedayo’s arraignment by the State Police Command followed a petition filed by the state government over the alleged zero allocation and diversion of local government funds by the state government, an allegation which has been denied by the government.

Adedayo was arrested by the police on Monday.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.

Counsel to the defendant, Mr Kayode Akinsola, urged the court to grant Adedayo bail, promising that the defendant would not jump bail.

The prosecuting counsel, Mr Olaide Rolly, however, did not object to the bail application.

Delivering a ruling on the bail application, the judge, Mr A. K. Araba, admitted the defendant to a bail of N2 million and two sureties with landed properties.

The case has been adjourned until October 20 for the next hearing while the defendant has been remanded at the Ibara Correctional Centre in Abeokuta.
