About 6,000 structures in slums in Garki, Jabi and 28 other areas have been approved for demolition by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Persecondnews reports that the structures were earlier surveyed by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCTA) before Wike’s administration.

According to the Director of the FCTA Department of Development Control, Muktar Galadima, the demolition which is an effort to rid the territory of shanties and illegal structures, will affect 30 areas across the FCT.

The areas include Apo Mechanic Village, Byanzhin, Dawaki, Dei Dei, Durumi, Dutse, Garki, Garki Village, Gishiri, Gwagwalada, Idu, Jabi, Kado Village, Karmo, Karshi, Karu, Katampe, Ketti Village, Kpaduma and Kabusa.

Others include Kpana Village, Kubwa, Lokogoma, Lugbe, Mabushi, Mpape, Nyanya, Piya Kasa, Jikwoyi and Galadima.

Persecondnews recalls that after his inauguration as Minister on Monday, Wike had vowed to restore the Abuja master plan and threatened to demolish buildings that distort the plan.

The minister also said land allottees who have been given Certificates of Occupancy but failed to develop them would also lose their lands to give way to those ready to build.

He said: “All those people who are distorting the master plan of Abuja, too bad! If you know you have built where you are not supposed to build, it will go down.

“Be you a minister or ambassador, if you know you have developed where you are not supposed to develop, your house must go down.”
