The Senate on Monday cleared the immediate past governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, and Mr Abubakar Momoh (Edo State) in the ongoing screening of ministerial nominees.

Persecondnews reports that the Senate commenced the screening of the nominees submitted to it by President Bola Tinubu on Monday afternoon during plenary.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio had on Thursday, July 27 unveiled the list of 28 ministerial nominees.

Wike is the only chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the ministerial list of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration sent in by the President.

Appearing before the Red Chamber for screening, Wike said President Tinubu “will not regret nominating him to serve as a minister in his cabinet.”

“I thank Mr President for nominating me. I believe, knowing how hungry Mr President is to solving the problems of Nigeria, we have no choice but to give him that required support.

“And I can assure you, if I am confirmed in whatever capacity, Mr President will not regret nominating me,” he said.

After his introductory comments, Akpabio, who presided over the exercise, attested to Wike’s “competence and capacity to deliver in office” and subsequently asked him to take a bow.
