The outgoing Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai has denied having a conversation with the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, to become his Chief of Staff.

El-Rufai said rather than being involved in the running of the incoming administration, he will need a break and
go to the private sector.

He spoke in Gombe on Saturday while inaugurating 550 housing units and Gombe Geographic Information Systems.

The Chief of Staff to the President of Nigeria is a high-ranking official, who manages the office of the President.

The governor, whose tenure ends in 22 days, said he can still contribute to the development of the country without being in government.

“There is not just one way to contribute to the country and I will never stop working for Nigeria’s progress.

“I have not had that discussion with the president-elect and I don’t like to speculate.

“I read in the newspapers all kinds of portfolios assigned to me but you know, I am a committed Nigerian.

“I will be in the private sector, not any chief of staff. I will take a break and advise people like Governor Inuwa Yahaya if they need it,” Persecondnews quotes El-Rufai as saying.

He added: “I want to see my country make progress and whatever I can do to contribute to the development of the country, I will do it.

“There is not just one way to contribute to the country and I will never stop working for Nigeria’s progress.”

Persecondnews gathered that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, is a strong contender for the position of the Chief of Staff.
