Lagos female lawyer, Bolanle Raheem’s burial rites put off over legal procedure

The final burial rites of Lagos lawyer, Mrs Bolanle Raheem, who was shot dead on Christmas Day in 2022, has been suspended indefinitely.

The postponement is as a result of certain “critical legal procedure.”

Mrs Funmi Adeogun, the Treasurer of the Section on Public Interest & Development Law (SPIDEL) of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), disclosed this in Lagos on Monday.

She said the NBA had requested to see the autopsy report from the medical team which examined the late Bolanle Raheem.

The NBA’s Publicity Secretary, Mr Habeeb Lawal, also confirmed: “There is an understanding with the family that the autopsy report should be out before our colleague is interred. We feel it is better, in case there will be a need for a second opinion

“The NBA is seeking to review both the autopsy and ballistic report expected to be used at the trial of the alleged killer cop, Drambi Vandi.”

Adeogun, who is also a member of the Olive Tree Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), the late lawyer’s church, said new dates will be communicated in due time.

Persecondnews reports that the burial ceremonies were scheduled to begin at 4.00 pm on Monday with a wake at the Olive Tree Parish of the RCCG while the church service was scheduled to hold on January 10.

NBA President, Mr Yakubu Maikyau (SAN) had on January 5 led some members of the National Executive Committee and some senior members of the bar to commiserate with the family of the slain lawyer.

The team also visited the police and the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN) at the Alausa Lagos State Secretariat.
